What is CHINS?

CHINS, or "Children in Need of Services", is a Indiana statute ued during parental rights litigation.

Parenthood is a fundamental right and liberty in which parents are able to raise their children the way they see is best. The Supreme Court acknowledges this by stating that this right is among "the basic civil rights of man" and "of basic importance to our society." The 14th Amendment of the United States protects a parent or guardians right to decide what is best for their child whether that pertains to a child's education, religion, medical treatment, or discipline.

On occasion, these decisions are called into question, and the parent or guardian can become that target of abuse or neglect allegations. This can involuntarily put them at risk of losing custody of and their relationship with their child. Schrontz Legal Group is here to assist parents and guardians in navigating the often complex area of CHINS litigation and will be in defense of involuntary termination of parental rights litigation.

Often times, a parent or guardian may feel attacked, threatened, and as if they have no one to protect their fundamental rights when they are faced with unsubstantiated questioning of their abilities and decision-making for their child. Here at Schrontz Legal Group, we are dedicated to our clients and their families. We strive to protect relationships between parents and their children. If you or your family are dealing with CHINS or parental rights matters, we may be able to assist you.
